Lubricant for Derby Cars

We are now only excepting Hob E Lube as a lubricant for the wheels of the derby cars.   The reason for this is because the Graphite would mess up our gem floors  and the Pledge would slow the car up after a few races.   The only why we could come to an agreement was to change to a specific type of lubricant.   This lubricant is now being used by the Cub Scouts for there derby races and seems to be working out very well.   We hope that every one will understand!

The rule is very simple you can only use Hob E Lube!
No Graphite, No Pledge, or any other lubricant!

Hob E Lube is available at the conference office for $3.00 a bottle.  (it has a small tube to apply the lubricant directly on the axle of the car)

Show Car Rules Have Changed

We have defined these types of Show cars very strictly!

Best of Show
Best of show "Car" must look like a car made from one pinewood derby basic car kit (not the pre-cut kit).  The car must meet all of the qualifications of the race car, except for weight (any weight is fine).  the judges will be looking for craftsmanship, detail, paint quality, etc.

Most Creative
The Most Creative Design needs to begin with the basic car kit, including wheels and axles.  the most Creative can look like any object (i.e. soda bottle, candy bar, flag, cartoon character, etc.) You may add anything onto the basic kit (objects, decals, beads --- anything goes!), you may even use more then one block of wood.  This category is judged solely on what catches the judges attention as "Most Creative."

Main Race Track

Because we are expecting allot of cars we are expecting to have to use to tracks to get the job done on time.   To do this we are now splitting up the Racing cars between two tracks.  The Main Race Track will be the Frederick Track (our track) and will be used most of the time for most races.   We will start out with racing the Youth then we will race the Run off for the Youth - Teen.  This will get our final winner.

Secondary Race Track

The second track is also computerized just like the Main track and also uses the PineWood Racer Software and Interface.  It's fully networked with both systems and both systems have access to the same card name database.   This track will mainly be used to race the Teen and Staff cars.   We would like to give thanks to Fulton Letourneau for the use of his track.

Distance Track

This track will be used for the distance race.  The cars will start out like the other tracks (one in each lane) and then will rool off onto the floor and whoever's car goes the furthest will win.  Just because you lost in the Race Track does not mean that you will louse in the Distance Track.   We would like to give thanks to the Chesapeake Conference for this track.  It was the old race track about ten years ago!  It has been fixed up to work again.   There is no computerized system installed on it because there is currently no why to measure the distance race!
